Welcome

On behalf of our Faculty of Business and Economics (FBE), I welcome you to this website, our virtual home. Here you will find information about our history; our five Departments, the great variety of degree programs and our wide range of course offerings.

The University of Eastern Mediterranean, the largest on the island, is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary. The FBE began in 1986 with a modest range of academic programs in Business and Economics, all in English, modeled after the USA credit system of instruction delivered on the tri-semester basis. Now, with a total full-time academic staff of over 60, we offer a comprehensive portfolio of programs at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral level. Currently we offer fourteen undergraduate, four masters and one Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programs. We have five academic departments, namely: Economics, Business Administration, Political Science and Public Administration, Banking and Finance, and International Relations.

FBE is the pre-eminent academic center in social sciences in North Cyprus. We take pride in high academic standards we uphold while sustaining a student-friendly environment. We attract students from a great number of countries in the Middle East, the Balkans, Asia and Africa as well as Turkey with which North Cyprus has a special relationship. The quality of our instruction is world-class, comparable to North American and European universities. Our students and their families are assured that their investment in the Eastern Mediterranean University will be a wise and worthwhile choice. Our graduates are placed internationally or pursue further academic studies in any part of the world. Our faculty members are well qualified with Ph.D degrees from reputable universities. They remain current in their teaching fields through research and publications in top scholarly journals. In addition, many of our teachers have professional and significant experience in the business world.

Student satisfaction is an important policy of the FBE. Students’ ratings of teaching are taken very seriously in our faculty evaluation process. As well, extracurricular activities are given high priority as several faculty and staff members promote and support student clubs, sports and cultural activities.  There are several national clubs reflecting the wide range of homelands on the EMU campus. While most of our students are from Turkey and North Cyprus, we have many students from all parts of the world. A key aim of FBE is to promote inter-cultural harmony and multicultural respect.

Located in the port city of Gazimağusa, near the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Salamis, visited by St. Paul and St. Barnabas, the EMU reaches out to the global community through international conferences, research centers and student clubs. Specifically, the FBE strives to achieve the highest academic excellence. It has been accepted as a member to the prestigious accreditation bodies: the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD).

I encourage anyone who has visited this virtual Web Site, to actually come and visit us at the Eastern Mediterranean University. I promise that you will find here faculty and students who are friendly, hospitable and helpful. We are proud of our beautiful campus and its pleasant environment. If you have any specific question, or would like to receive additional information about any of our programs. Please write to any of our Department Chairs, or to me personally.
